Welcome to the International Homicide Investigators Association (IHIA) web site. IHIA was founded in 1988 at a VICAP (Violent Criminal Apprehension Program) International Homicide Symposium sponsored by the Federal Bureau of Investigation at Quantico, Virginia .
It was at that meeting in 1988 with homicide professionals from around the world that the concept of an International Association specifically for those professionals dealing with homicide investigation was developed. We have seen our association grow to over 1,600 members representing almost every state in the United States and 17 other countries including, Austria , Australia, Belgium , Brazil, Canada, Denmark , Germany , Iceland , Ireland, Norway , the Republic of China , Sweden , The Netherlands, Trinidad and Tobago , Philippines and Mexico .
The primary mission of the International Homicide Investigators Association (IHIA) is to assist and support law enforcement agencies and death investigations professionals by providing leadership, training, resources and expertise necessary to solve cases.
The association brings all the disciplines that are needed in a homicide investigation together to focus on:
· Homicide Case Management
· Investigative and Prosecution Strategy
· Latest Advancements in Forensic Technology and
· Laboratory Services
· Trends in Criminal Behavior and Methodology
· Case comparisons to determine similarity in Criminal Executions
The International Homicide Investigators Association has held annual symposiums since it's inception in 1988. These symposiums have been held in such locations as Kansas City, Missouri ; Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; St. Louis, Missouri ; Zutphen, Netherlands ; London, England ; Houston, Texas; Las Vegas, Nevada ; San Francisco, California ; New Orleans, Louisiana and Clearwater, Florida .
In addition to these symposium's providing “world class” training this year our association has launched a “Basic Homicide Investigators” course that will be presented around the country. The courses have already been conducted in the New Orleans and St. Louis areas and were a great success. These courses have been very well received and agencies are asking for more of these types of training.
Please review our web site and should you have any questions, please contact one of the Board Members or our Executive Director, Bill Hagmaier. Please consider joining the association and furthering our efforts in homicide and death investigation.
